SPC has a paid staff of four part-time employees, but an array of volunteers organized as committees who provide for the congregation’s needs. We will look to our incoming pastor to help encourage and inspire our volunteers in their current efforts, and to guide us in identifying, and most effectively and sustainably serving, our community in the name of Christ.

We are seeking a part-time pastor for 20 hours per week. We are open to dual-career pastors and other flexible arrangements. The incoming pastor should:

• Identify untapped spiritual gifts and talents, encouraging and expanding member participation

• Mentor members to rise to service and leadership roles

• Enthusiastically support and participate in outreach activities and community events

As a body of faith, Shawnee Presbyterian Church (SPC) strives to be guided by Christ and His teachings through vibrant, inclusive, relevant, and welcoming worship and service to the congregation and community.

We are a Bible-based congregation. To achieve our vision, our clergy and congregation are called upon to focus our efforts on worship; stewardship; health of the congregation; service to the community; and outreach to the world.

Sunday worship is expanded with special services on Christian holy days. Worship touches the lives of our members, visitors, and vacationers who are drawn to the historic and beautiful SPC due to its rich history and environment. Some are drawn to SPC by its radio station, which broadcasts Christian messages and worship music. We also provide recorded and streaming video services for home worship. Our outreach includes volunteer service, public events, hospitality, and charitable activities.

SPC’s willingness to respond in times of calm and in times of need illustrates our ongoing commitment to praise the Lord in all things and to live out faith through action.

The Pocono Mountain area is rich in cultural activities, with a vibrant art and music community. The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area is among the Top 10 recreational destinations in the U.S. The region offers many options for higher education and healthcare. Members of SPC are personally and professionally active in all of these areas. SPC members are integrated into the life of the wider community, allowing them to identify opportunities for outreach.

We believe that Christ acts through us. SPC is committed to serving as a resource while He works in the lives of our community. To best respond to the changing needs of today’s world and our own congregation, we seek to:

•    make SPC available to the community at large, welcoming all to our events and activities
•    support diversity in all areas, demonstrating representation and respect for congregants of all backgrounds
•    provide belonging and acceptance to those who are vulnerable, including an aging population, those in a place of doubt or transition, new area residents, and others
•    develop new resources for the maintenance and preservation of our historic buildings and grounds, e.g. through grant writing
•    complete long- and short-range planning to develop a sustainable financial model

•    A Christian who is mature in their faith, is theologically grounded in the Reformed Presbyterian tradition, and has accumulated wisdom over their life of ministerial service
•    A visionary with the ability to guide SPC membership and lead in developing a Strategic Plan
•    A communicator who is strong, positive, enthusiastic, and self-confident, with the ability to foster open dialogue, collaboration, and team building to address emerging needs
•    An advisor with the ability to monitor and support church governing bodies (Session, Deacons) and financial management in alignment with the strategic plan
•    A teacher with the ability to enhance Christian Education and Bible Study for children, youth, and adults
•    A mentor who possesses the ability to counsel with compassion and wisdom, and who can identify and develop spiritual gifts
•    A worship leader who is inspirational, can interpret the teachings of Christ with relevancy toward today and the future, and empowers members through God’s assurance of faith, hope, and love

Worship Leadership:

• Prepare and deliver sermons weekly

• Perform hospital and home visitations

Administration:

• Four office hours per week

• Advise and collaborate with church committees

• One on one counseling

Building Community:

• Network with local clergy and churches

• Cultivate new members among recently retired/relocated families
